Mississippi Lake has great potential for a wide variety of activities. Here are 15 of the most popular, with guidance and information to make your experience safe and enjoyable:

Fishing and Ice Fishing

Mississippi Lake is in the Ontario Fishing Management Zone 18 (FMZ 18).

Hunting

Mississippi Lake is in the Ontario Wildlife Management Unit 64A (WMU 64A).

​Swimming

Mississippi Lakes's clean, clear water is ideal for a refreshing dip on hot summer days, but there are no public beaches on the lake - the entire shoreline consists of private or commercial property.

Carleton Place has an excellent beach and park facility right on the river next to the Canoe Club, which you can access off Lake Avenue. This is the same street that leads to Carleton Place's public boat ramp.


Bird Watching and Photography
​
There are wonderful sunrises, sunsets, and vistas all day long. The lake hosts migratory birds by the thousands each spring. Eagles, hawks, cormorants, and espeically loons are great subjectys for your eye or camera


Winter activities
Snowmobiling and ice skating are great winter activities, when the ice gets thick enough and periods of calm winds result in a glass-smooth surface.








Summer activities

On a warm sunny day, a great variety of water craft can be out on the water. Some parts of the lake can get pretty congested. Be careful and be courteous out there. Let's all share the lake in safety.
