The MLA is excited to bring
LANDING BLITZ 2025
to Mississippi Lake
In 2019, the Great Lakes Commission implemented an Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Landing Blitz outreach event to educate recreational boaters and anglers about invasive species by engaging with them at boat launches at more than 440 locations in the US and Canada. The 2025 Landing Blitz will be the 7th anniversary of this highly successful initiative. To learn more about the Great Lakes Aquatic Invasive Species Landing Blitz, visit glc.org/work/blitz.
From 30 June to 13 July 2025, volunteers will chat with boaters about the risks of spreading aquatic invasive species between water bodies, and to emphasise the need to clean, drain, and dry watercraft after they come out of the water.
Can we count on you

Rob Bell from MLA explaining risk of invasive species at the Lake Avenue boat launch sign.

Why a Blitz?
Like Zebra Mussels we may soon have other invasive aquatic species in Mississippi Lake that are spread by contaminated boat hulls, bilges, live wells and trailers.
We can help slow the spread by reminding boaters to Clean, Drain and Dry.
Boaters just need a gentle reminder that it is their responsibility to Clean, Drain and Dry their boats before they launch in another body of water. We will be having friendly chats and passing out information that will help them understand why and what they should be doing!
From Monday 30 June to Sunday 13 July 2025 the MLA will be 'blitzing' the Lake Avenue boat launches with volunteers from 1pm-5pm each day. Please pick your preferred days below!

Training
All participants will receive training via zoom before the event. It will include information about invasive species, why they spread in our lakes and how Clean, Drain and Dry can help. There will also be scripts for participants to use with boaters. Handouts and t-shirts will also be made available before June 30.
