Most residences in a rural environment are deprived of two vital services that municipal dwellers usually take for granted: potable water and sewage.  Having a big lake at your doorstep doesn't automatically mean you have access to clean and healthy potable water.   And, liquid waste cannot simple be pumped into "nature" without evenutally causing severe helathy and safety consequences.
