The Mississippi Lakes Association, under the lead of the Environment Chair Lise Boulay, has endorsed the Let's Get the Lead out campaign, started by Margie Manthey & Donna Garland of Wolfe Lake Association. The aim is to promote lead-free fishing and reducing the accumulation of lost lead tackle in the environment,. They are now celebrating their 5th year of operation!
To date Let’s Get the Lead Out:
has collected over 550 pounds of toxic lead from the public. (While this is certainly an impressive amount, rest assured that even one piece of lead tackle kept out of lakes and rivers is a small victory for loons and other vulnerable wildlife -- so keep at it.)
has been adopted by 29 lake associations and property owner groups representing 50 lakes across Ontario.
was recently nominated for the Canadian Wildlife Federation’s “True North Conservation Award.”
Word of the initiative continues to spread through magazine and newspaper articles as well as frequent social media posts. It’s important to keep the issue in the spotlight!
The following Fact sheet has been developed by the campaign organizers with source attributes at the end.

The team has also created a series of info videos to support the campaign which you can review using the links below.
