The following is a reprint of an update received from the Federation of Ontario Cottagers' Associations (FOCA)

Since January 2026, FOCA has been in communication with senior contacts at the Alto Crown Corporation to share our perspectives on the proposed Alto High-Speed Rail project.

Our focus has been on the importance of a strong environmental assessment process, transparent engagement with affected communities, and meaningful mitigation of impacts as the proposal evolves. While the project represents a significant national infrastructure initiative, we recognize there are also potential implications for lakes, wetlands, communities, and generational properties along the proposed corridor.

Now, we are pleased to share that Alto has agreed to add an additional virtual consultation session on Monday, March 23, 2026, from 7:00–8:45 pm, providing an opportunity for our members across the province to participate. Registration is available online. We encourage you to take part in this virtual public event.

In addition, Alto has informed FOCA that the consultation period - originally scheduled to close on March 29th - has been extended until April 24, 2026.

You can:

  • continue to provide feedback through the Alto website survey and online map - to date, those tools have received more than 10,000 interactions

  • encourage everyone to subscribe to the monthly FOCA e-newsletter for ongoing updates on this, and other cottage country hot topics.

FOCA will continue to engage with Alto to reinforce the priorities noted above, and to circulate information to members as it becomes available.
